International Paris Open 2008

On march 22, 23 and 24 (Easter) the International Paris Open was held, organised by the
AFPS. This is a huge Olah Raga Competition, completed by workshops and diverse Seni demonstrations. The school in Bordeaux was represented with 15 students. From the Netherlands there were 9 persons, including our Guru Besar. These events are a great opportunity to meet and talk after long time no see. And also admire our first wonderful six month old pencak silat baby Saioa!

On Saturday morning Team Indonesia was doing some workshops in Panglipur and Silek Tuo Harimau style. One of the favourites was Cecep Arif Rahman from Panglipur Indonesia (on the poster).
After a nice Indonesian lunch we were asked to perform in between Tanding games. The intention was to alternate these with Seni. But the games overrun their time, so our second inserted demo could not take place. However, in the evening it was our time. We saw Sophie Petit and Paul Doazan (first time) joining the Jurus Wajib Tunggal contest. They ended second and third.
When the Lankah PAMUR started, it was very exiting to walk this synchronic with 18 people! We did many beladiri's, a solo and one group (1 girl, 4 boys from France). Bapak Tönjes was very proud.
Then it was time to relax. We watched the games with mixed feelings. Our opinion is that in Tanding, we don´t see enough of Pencak Silat in it's pure form, such as the defence moves: In our view it is a successive kicking and hitting without any style. We don't see games like this in Kung Fu, so why does it exist in Pencak Silat? On the other hand, we feel a need to join and support this concept of PERSILAT. Nevertheless, AFPS and chairman Eric Chatelier did a great job again!
