Home First milestone to revive Seni |

On March 26 2006, the first Seni Pencak Silat competition
was held in Hoofddorp, organised by guru C.H. Smith of Perguruan
Satria Muda Hoofddorp and guru C.D. Kessing of Perguruan P.S.
Manyang Zaanstad. This was the first competition which was
followed by others: in Den Helder (June 2006) and again in
Hoofddorp (march 2007).
The tournaments are supported by members of the Dewan Guru and the Dewan Sesepuh. Here follows a comment on the first tournament, by our teacher, grandmaster Ph.J.C. Tönjes. He is an official guru besar/pendekar of Indonesia and he is chairman of the Dewan Sesepuh (Council of Oldies):
"Finally, after more than seven years the
Seni Pencak Silat is put aside in a forgotten corner, it can
show to advantage on this joyful day. This was the first milestone to revive Seni, which is
the cultural part of the Pencak Silat Indonesia.
For the ones who are not yet aware of the signification
of seni, on this day it should be clear that it is a fundamental
basis of Pencak Silat.
As appears form the big attendance and
attention towards the performed arts, there appears to be a
clear need to give more form and content to the cultural part of
Pencak Silat.
The fact that youth was represent in great
numbers, gives a positive signal to the spreading of Pencak
Silat in general. Competitors were taking part in a large
variety of categories. The understanding among pesilats, young
and old, was very good."

Tjimande had the honour to receive the second school award,
besides several first and second prizes. The deserved first
place was for our friends from Paguron Mande Muda Mawar Suci, of
Guru H. Tulalessy, Den Bosch.
June 24th 2006 we went to Den Helder to the Manyang Seni Festival. It was an early trip for us, because Den Helder is not next door. So we took the train and two and a half hour later we arrived. Bapak Tönjes unfortunately was not able to come with us. So everyone asked for him. It was a nice afternoon. Our performance was at 20.00h in the evening. Right after that we had to leave (otherwise we could not make it to Eindhoven that same day). The group of P&S Paguron Mande Muda Mawar Suci was too kind to stand in for us at the prize distribution. |

The latest seni festival was held in Hoofddorp, june 3rd 2007, on Gijs his birthday. We were too few to participate, so we joined the jury in our white shirt with black trousers. Go back Magazine Coming up Home |
